Is Israel about to hand over the Temple Mount to the Vatican?
During the 1967 Six-Day War Israel captured the Temple Mount and gained sovereign control to the Temple Mount area. However, day-to-day control was given to the Islamic religious authorities, the Waqf. The Waqf forbids the Jews from any form of worship on the Temple Mount, even prayer. Control of the Temple Mount has heated up recently as the Palestinians have clashed with Israel police on the Temple Mount area. The Palestinians are attempting to assert their control.
The Vatican has a real interest in gaining sovereign control to the Temple Mount and has been pushing this for years. Revelation 11:1-2 says that at least part of the Temple Mount will be given to the nations.
Pope Francis plans to visit Jordan, West Bank and Israel in three weeks on May 24-26. He plans to visit the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall on May 26, then meet with President Shimon Peres. It is likely they will be discussing the Temple Mount.
A number of news sites (including Christianity Today and Arutz Sheva) have reported that Israel has been discussing handing the Tomb of David, which is the site of Last Supper, over to the control of the Vatican. A member of the Knesset, the legislative branch of the Israeli government, says that Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef told him that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s bureau asked permission for Israel to hand over the Tomb of David to the Vatican.
