What If I Sin?
If you have prayed to receive Jesus Christ then all your sin has been forgiven. This means all your sin, whether past, present or future. He paid the price of your sin in full. So when you sin again you don’t need to worry about losing your salvation. Your salvation is based on the righteous of Jesus not on any righteousness you could ever produce.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”.
When you sin you should still confess and acknowlege your sin before God. By doing this you agree with God that your sins have been forgiven.
I John 1:9 states“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What Happens at Salvation?
1. You were forgiven of all your sin. This includes all your past sins and the sins you will commit in the future.
Acts 10:43 states“Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sin.”
2. You were given freedom from condemnation.
John 5:24 states“He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
3. The Holy Spirit came to dwell in your heart.
John 14:14 states“the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”
4. You received eternal life. God’s gift of salvation is based on His work and not on you performing up to some level of righteousness. You are saved by His grace. When you prayed to receive Jesus then you received the promise of eternal life with Jesus.
I John 5:11-13 states“And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.”
5.You were declared righteous by God. The word for this is justification – you have been declared not guilty once and for all.
Romans 5: 1 states“Therefore, have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”.
2 Corinthians 5:21 states “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
6. Jesus paid the full price for your sin. You have been redeemed from the curse of the law.
Galatians 3:13 states“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.”
7. You became a child of God.
John 1:12 states“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
Living for Jesus
Living for Jesus is to walk in newness of life.
Read your Bible daily. A good place to start is in the book of John, in the New Testament. The book of John walks through the life of Jesus.
Begin to memorize your favorite passages of scripture.
Seek to walk in the Spirit. This means to be constantly aware of the Holy Spirit speaking to you through your conscience. As you walk in the Spirit and are led by the Spirit, the Spirit of God develops godly qualities in your life. The Spirit also guides you in knowing the truth.
Galatians 5:16,22-23 states“walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
John 16:13 says “when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth”.
Is Hell Real?
Hell does exist, it is real and it is not a place you want to spend the rest of eternity. I plead with you to give your heart to Jesus now to escape the judgment of God. The fear of hell itself should give you reason enough to trust in Jesus.
Billy Graham said, “God will never send anybody to hell. If man goes to hell, he goes by his own free choice.” God sent His son to die on the cross for you as atonement for your sin. People may joke around and state they want to go to hell to be with their friends but put the joking aside and consider the realness of hell. Two aspects of hell are troublesome to me. One, hell is a lake of fire and two, it is forever. The second aspect is most troublesome and honestly I have a difficultly understanding the depth and impact of “forever”.
The Bible tells of a true story about Lazarus in Luke 16:23-24 “And in hell he [the rich man] lifted us his eyes, being in torments, and seeing Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”
The Bible states that every person will one day stand before God and God will look to see if your name is written in the Book of Life. If your name is not there then you will spend the rest of your life in a horrifying place absent from God.
Revelation 20:12-15 states “And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Hope in Jesus
For those who are carrying heavy burdens,
for those who are struggling with sin,
for those who are going through depression,
for those who are lonely and without friends,
for those whose lives are heading down to destruction
there is hope in Jesus.
Jesus is the only true hope in this world.
John 14:6 Jesus states“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”.
Jesus gives you a new life and He gives you a pure heart. Once you are saved, the Holy Spirit comes into your life and fills you with His love, peace and joy.
Galatians 5: 23-24 states “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control”
Psalms 42:11 states“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
One of my favorite passages is Romans 8:35-39 which says“Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, “For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
If you are a new believer then you need to be discipled in your new walk with Jesus.New Life in Christdiscipleship material will be helpful to understand the Bible and take steps to know God. The material is free and a link is provided for you to download and print this material.
After you receive Jesus Christ, you should be baptized. Baptism does not save you but it is an act of obedience to Jesus and a witness to those around you that you desire to live for Jesus. If you are a new Christian contact a local church and talk to the pastor about being baptized.
In Matthew 28:19 Jesus commands his disciples preach the gospel to the world and baptize them. He said “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Attend a Church
Maybe you have never entered the door of a church in your life. It is important that you surround yourself with believers. Find a church that preaches through the Word of God and is Spirit filled. The church is the body of Christ but is filled with sinners like you and me.
Hebrews 10:24-25 states“and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking the assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another: and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
If you are unsure of what church to attend you may want to start by attending aCalvary Chapelchurch in your area.
Assurance of Salvation
You can be sure of your salvation. If you prayed to receive Jesus then you can rest in the assurance of spending eternity with God. Your salvation is based on the grace of God and not on anything good you have done.
Galatians 2:16 states “nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Christ Jesus.”
You are a new creature in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 states“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
You are held securely by God and nothing can remove you from God’s hand.
John 10:27-29 states“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Nothing can separate you from the love of God.
Romans 8:38-39 states “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
