The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is on a sweep through Syria and Iraq. This terrorist group is committing mass murders as it quickly moves from city to city. Thousands of foreign fighters and many of Iraq’s army have put down their arms and joined ISIS. Jordon, Saudi Arabia and Israel are on high alert. ISIS has stated they have access to nuclear weapons and won’t hesitate to use them.
The group is led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who has been called the world’s “most powerful jihadi leader” and “the world’s most dangerous man”. He is a powerful military leader and a ruthless killer. He claims to be a direct descendant of the prophet Muhammad and his goal is to create a Sunni Islamic caliphate. (A caliphate is an Islamic state headed by a religious and political leader known as a caliph.) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has taken on the name of one of the first caliphs Abu Bakr, a military genius who ruled the Islamic world from 632 to 634.
Most of the Middle East Islamic nations are primarily Sunni muslims with the exception of Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen.
So what will be the outcome. We don’t know. Here are some possibilities. 1) ISIS continues to take cities, weapons, and oil fields, 2) ISIS and Iran will end up fighting each other in another Sunni – Shiite conflict, and 3) ISIS will come against Israel. This third outcome could potentially lead to the Psalm 83 war, the destruction of Damascus described in Isaiah 17 and maybe the start of WWIII.
Pray for the many Christians who have left their homes and are on the run.
It is interesting that the name ISIS is the name of an Egyptian goddess. The name means “throne”. ISIS married her brother “Osiris” and she conceived the god “Horus”.Share this:
